Sympathetic, Functional, Protective
Many buildings with a Listed or a Conservation status were built in a period that predates modern window manufacture, stylish and traditional but less functional than modern windows. However, it’s not only pre 20th century buildings which have historic status as an increasing number of buildings from more recent years have protected status.
More often than not, tilt and turn window replacements for buildings dating back from the 1960’s and 1970’s are of a more contemporary design. This still requires a fusion of the old and new as modern window ironmongery and glazing units differ greatly from their early prototypes. The importance of matching the existing profiles and sight-lines are no less important in such 20th century buildings.
